Delivery Reports by SMS at ASG

Earlier on the drivers of ASG Sweden - a transport and logistics services company - which delivers goods, for instance between plants, did not have any means for data communication with headquarters. ASG has chosen for their road transports within Sweden, to use SMS Nordic's SMS Router in order to handle the drivers reporting of information to headquarters. The drivers report, by using their PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) and mobile phones, to ASG when they have picked up and delivered their goods. This enables ASG to inform their clients where their goods are at the moment and when delivery is estimated.

SMS Nordic has created the communication interface to ASGs mainframe computers. Received SMS-messages are processed according to an established specification and are feed into a SQL table and from there it is delivered to the mainframe. The communication interface validates that it's an approved sender, it processes the SMS-message and delivers it into the SQL table. Some drivers are reporting linked messages that are out together by SMS Router to a wholly new message. The Linking Protocol is used to maximize the usage of space in each SMS-message and thereby lowering communication costs for ASG. There is also a receipt function available in the system that informs the driver that the message has been delivered. This function sends an SMS-message to the GSM phone from which the original message has been sent.

The SMS-solution created by SMS Nordic is built on a standardized interface that all ASGs contracted road carriers should be able to use independent of what kind of PDA and other equipment is used in the trucks.
